Maintenance

All buildings suffer from the accumulation of dirt, dust and other contaminates, dependent of the severity of the environment. It therefore makes economic sense to maintain the metal roofing or wall cladding, similar to the way that windows are maintained.

We recommend getting your roof cleaned down once a year.

Contact us, we’ll make maintaining your roof easy for you.

Although normal rain washing will remove most accumulated debris, washing your roof down once a year will dramatically increase the longevity of your roof. Like a car, when it rains the baked on dirt and dust stays baked on.

Manual washing is recommended for areas which do not receive adequate rain washing. These areas, such as wall cladding under eaves or sheltered areas, such as wall cladding under eaves or sheltered areas where overlapping of roof areas occur due to design, are known as unwashed areas.

  ENVIRONMENT
Moderate ISO Category 3 Severe ISO Category 4 Very Severe ISO Category 5
Roof Rain washing Rain washing Not recommended
Wall Cladding Rain washing plus manual washing every year Rain washing plus manual washing every 6 months Not recommended
Unwashed and High Risk Areas Manual washing every six months Manual washing every 3 months Not recommended

Note: High risk areas include around flues and extractor vents, under television aerials and trees and sites prone to mould, lichen, bird droppings or debris.

Easy steps to maintaining your longrun roof:

  • Step one: Soft soled shoes should be worn whenever walking on a roof to prevent damage to the coating.
  • Step two: Walk only on the pans of the profile (flat sections), and/or on the purlin line where the fixings are, whenever possible. This helps keep your roof in good condition plus dent free.
  • Step three: Surfaces may be washed with water and a soft-bristled brush. For larger areas a waterblaster may be more appropriate at pressures up to 20Mpa.

Maintenance of your roof is very important as it helps keep your roof in good condition, it means that you get the best quality, and your roof will last its recommended lifetime at its best.
